Sunset Beach, forming part of
the CAPE WHALE ROUTE, is a hive of activity between the months of June and
November. Our most frequent whale species, namely the
Southern Right Whales are easily identifiable by their strong V –shaped
air blowing antiques. Whale sighting peak in the months of September and October
when calving as well as the mating season takes place. Mating results in the
females flapping their fines and tails in lively sequences as they try to fend
off unattractive companions. Whales are often seen SPYHOPPING (bringing heads
out of water to keep a close eye on the rest of the gang) or BREACHING (the art
of hurling their entire 6 tons of mass into thin air with a thunderous landing).
